MASTERCARD REIMAGINES PAYMENT SECURITY THROUGH A NEW K-MICRODRAMA

As digital payments become an increasingly important part of everyday life, Mastercard is exploring a fresh approach to consumer education through entertainment with the launch of Tap Into My Heart, a three-episode Korean-style microdrama designed to make payment safety and security more engaging and accessible to audiences across Southeast Asia.
Developed in collaboration with McCann Singapore, the series will be rolled out across Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam and the Philippines over eight weeks. The campaign will be supported by short-form content distributed through TikTok, Meta and YouTube, using relatable characters, emotional storylines and familiar everyday situations to highlight the importance of staying safe when making digital payments.
Bringing Payment Security into Everyday Storytelling
Tap Into My Heart combines the appeal of Korean entertainment with the growing popularity of microdramas, offering a creative way to communicate important consumer protection messages. Rather than relying on conventional awareness campaigns, the series incorporates payment security themes into an entertaining narrative that reflects the experiences, concerns and decisions consumers encounter in their daily lives.
The concept draws on the widespread popularity of Korean content and the increasing demand for short-form, mobile-friendly entertainment. According to the 2026 Overseas Hallyu Survey, audiences across 30 countries spend an average of 14.7 hours each month consuming Korean content, much of which is discovered through social media and mobile-first platforms. Meanwhile, microdramas have gained momentum across Asia through concise storytelling, emotional narratives and episodes designed for easy sharing.
By combining these trends, Mastercard aims to reach consumers through content formats they already enjoy, making payment safety and security messages more memorable and relevant.
Dheeraj Raina, Senior Vice President and Head of Integrated Marketing and Communications for Southeast Asia at Mastercard, said traditional approaches to payment safety education can struggle to maintain consumers’ attention. He explained that the company wanted to connect with audiences through familiar stories, entertainment and cultural experiences rather than relying solely on conventional awareness campaigns.
Through Tap Into My Heart, Mastercard seeks to make payment protection a more natural part of everyday conversations while encouraging consumers to pay greater attention to their digital payment habits.
Using K-Drama Elements to Explore Payment Security
The series also draws on signature elements of Korean dramas, including romance, suspense, suspicion and unexpected twists, to explore the anxieties consumers may experience around fraud and payment security.
Dan Parmenter, Creative Director at McCann Singapore, said the K-drama format provided a suitable storytelling approach for communicating these concerns through heightened emotions and engaging plot developments. Working with a Korean director and actors, the creative team incorporated familiar genre elements to tell a story about building confidence in digital payments.
Mastercard’s security features are integrated into the storyline rather than presented as interruptions to the entertainment experience. This approach allows viewers to encounter payment protection concepts within the context of the characters’ experiences, helping make the messages more accessible without compromising the narrative.
The series reflects a broader effort to explore how entertainment can support consumer awareness of digital risks while creating a more engaging connection between audiences and payment security.
Expanding Consumer Education Through Creative Innovation
The launch of Tap Into My Heart forms part of Mastercard’s wider commitment to finding innovative ways to communicate payment safety and security as consumer behaviour and media consumption continue to evolve.
Earlier this year, the company collaborated with Sticky Monster Lab on Protected Monsters, a campaign that combined AI-powered motion capture, creator-led storytelling and digital content to present payment security concepts through relatable everyday scenarios.
Together, these initiatives demonstrate Mastercard’s interest in using popular culture, emerging technologies and creative storytelling to make complex topics easier for consumers to understand and engage with.
As digital payments become more deeply integrated into everyday transactions, accessible consumer education remains important in helping people recognise potential risks and make more informed decisions. By adapting its messaging to changing entertainment habits, Mastercard is seeking to ensure that payment safety remains relevant to audiences across different markets and digital platforms.
The first episode of Tap Into My Heart is available on YouTube, with subsequent episodes scheduled to roll out over eight weeks. Additional short-form content will also be shared across TikTok and Meta throughout the campaign.
